Geneva Reaches NCCAA Semi-Finals

“15-Hit Attack Sparks Win Over Mid-Continent”

Marion, IN – The rain finally stopped, but Geneva’s bats were far from rusty in a 15-hit attack that helped the Golden Tornadoes to an 11-4 victory over Mid-Continent University at the NCCAA national tournament at Indiana Wesleyan. The victory pushed Geneva into the semi-final round and moved its overall record to 27-17 on the season.

After spotting MCU a 1-0 lead, Geneva tied the game with a run in the second inning. In the third, the Golden Tornadoes broke the game open with eight hits and seven runs. Amy Pearce gave Geneva the lead with her seventh home run of the season. After the two-run blast, Geneva got RBI hits from Amy Johnson, Kim Slater and Michawn Rich. Rich ended the game with a perfect 4-4 day, while Slater, Jackie Anthony and Mary Gaylor added two hits each.

Erinne Metler picked up her 14th victory of the season after working five innings and allowing four earned runs. Ashley Archer closed out the game with a pair of scoreless innings. Metler is now just three victories away from tying Geneva’s record for career victories.

Geneva will now face top seeded Olivet Nazarene on Saturday at 10 am in the semi-finals. The championship game is slated for 2 pm.
