Lucky Seven Heading to Track Nationals

Beaver Falls, PAGeneva’s track and field team completed its NAIA national meet qualifiers on Thursday at the Allegheny College meet. The seventh and final national qualifier met her standard and it came as quite a surprise. In just her second time participating in the 3000 meter race-walk, Sara Morrison met the NAIA national qualifying standard to join six of her teammates on the qualifying list.

Geneva’s athletes will compete at Fresno Pacific University in Fresno, CA from May 24-26. In addition to Morrison, Geneva will send Dee Koutsourais, Andrew Foxenberg, John Perkins and Beth Bartolomeo to compete in the marathon. Other qualifiers include Susan Fletcher (3000 meter steeplechase) and Tiffany Bear (Javelin).

The year of the distance runners continue at Geneva with a record four participants in the single marathon event. Foxenberg and Koutsourais will be making their second attempt at the national meet, while the others will be performing on the national stage for the first time.

“We are really excited about our qualifiers,” said head coach Bret Otte. “These kids have all worked extremely hard and are ready to make a strong showing in a couple weeks.”

Geneva’s track and field team will compete at Baldwin-Wallace next Friday in the final tune-up before the national meet at the end of the month.
