NEWS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE October 6, 2007 MORE THAN THOMAS MORE CAN HANDLE, GENEVA CRUISES TO ANOTHER SHUT-OUT VICTORY Beaver Falls, PA – Geneva’s tennis team hadn’t played a home match in nearly a month. On Saturday afternoon, the Golden Tornadoes finally got back to friendly surroundings, but it was against an unfamiliar opponent. Geneva faced off against Thomas More College for the first time in history and it turned out to be an impressive day for the Golden Tornadoes. Geneva defeated Thomas More 9-0 for its second shut-out victory in as many days. Less than 24 hours after handing W & J a 9-0 loss, Geneva turned the trick yet again. The victory improved Geneva’s overall record to 6-4. Jill Halama, Allison Krisza and Tess Roholt continued to pace the Golden Tornadoes with singles victories that allowed TMC a total of just two games in those three straight set victories. Beth Sweatman had a bit more trouble as she was taken to a second set tiebreaking before coming away with a straight set win. Other singles winners included Jill Grabski and Katie Caldwell. Geneva was also perfect in doubles play with three victories that were a combined 24-2 advantage in games won. The Golden Tornadoes will host Waynesburg College on Tuesday before traveling to Westminster on Wednesday for the regular season finale. |
