SEASON FINALE EXAMPLE OF ENTIRE 2007 SEASON,
GENEVA FALLS 1-0 TO BETHANY
Beaver Falls, PA– If one game can signify the way an entire season unfolded, it was Geneva’s women’s soccer finale on Friday night. The Golden Tornadoes dropped a 1-0 decision to Bethany despite outplaying an out shooting the Bison. Geneva held a 14-5 advantage in the shots column, but a first half goal by the Bison held up to drop Geneva to 2-15-1 to end the 2007 campaign.
First year head coach Linda Sumner watched her team battle from beginning to end on Friday, as they did from beginning to end in the entire season. An offensive shortage, especially in the second half of the season, resulted in Geneva ending the year with a 13 game winless streak, including nine shut-outs.
On Friday night, Bethany’s Ruthie Pettle lofted a 20 yard shot over the head of Amber Weaver in the 13th minute on a goal that would be the decisive tally in the game. Geneva had several chances to tie the game in each half, but once again the offensive drought could not be solved and Geneva ended the season with another hard fought, one-goal loss.
Nicole Beadling, Abby Young and Jenna Witkowski all ended their careers on Friday night as the 2007 senior class. Each played a significant role in Geneva’s program over the last four seasons and will be missed, both on and off the field.
Geneva’s biochemistry major is approved by the American Chemical Society and offers rigorous preparation for graduate or allied-health schools.
