GENEVA STAYS PERFECT WITH COMEBACK

WIN AT FREDONIA

Fredonia, PA           Geneva’s women’s basketball team remained perfect in the early season with its third straight victory on Monday night against Fredonia by the score of 60-52. The Golden Tornadoes battled through a sluggish first half, but responded by outscoring Fredonia 37-27 in the final 20 minutes to pull out the victory. The win moved Geneva to 3-0, while Fredonia fell to 2-2.

Renee Rawding led Geneva in scoring for the third straight game with 16 points, while Allyson Clarke added 13 points and a team best seven rebounds. Freshman Christina Carugati may have made the biggest impact with ten points off the bench to help spark Geneva’s comeback.

Geneva took its first lead of the second half at 48-47 with just over five minutes to play on a Michawn Rich lay-up. The Golden Tornadoes would never again trail after scoring 14 of the final 19 points of the game. Lauren Uranker and Bridget Beachy each knocked in key three point field goals during that final run to put the game away.

Geneva’s defense forced 27 Fredonia turnovers and held them to 41% shooting from the field. Geneva was 12-26 (46%) from the field in the second half and put the game away at the foul line where it was a perfect 10-10 in the final 20 minutes.

Geneva will return to face Carlow and Franciscan on Tuesday and Wednesday nights as the Golden Tornadoes will play three games in three nights. On Saturday, Geneva will host Grove City for its first action against a PAC opponent.
