Curtain Goes Up with Doubleheader Loss to Northwood
Ft. Pierce, FL – Geneva’s baseball team did not get off to the start it was hoping for in 2008. The Golden Tornadoes dropped a pair of games to NCAA Division II Northwood University on Monday in Ft. Pierce, FL by the scores of 6-4 and 15-6.
In game one, Geneva squandered a solid pitching performance from Derek Sumner, who picked up the loss despite striking out 11 batters. On the offensive side, Tadd Eyster and Andy Lubich each had two hits and two RBI’s in the loss.
Game two was also a close contest for most of the game. Northwood broke open the game with nine runs in the final two innings to complete the two-game sweep. Eyster was again the hitting star in the night cap with two more hits, including his first home run of the season.
The Golden Tornadoes will go after their first victory of the season on Tuesday when they face Southeastern College, FL in a single game. Geneva has a total of nine games scheduled on its Florida swing before heading home next week.
Designated as a Pennsylvania College of Distinction, Geneva is recognized as one of the best places in the state for students to learn, to grow, and to succeed.
