NOT DONE YET, GENEVA ACCEPTS BID TO NCCAA MEN’S

NATIONAL TOURNAMENT

Beaver Falls, PA – Geneva’s men’s basketball team saw its season extended on Wednesday when it accepted an at-large bid to the 2008 NCCAA National tournament. The Golden Tornadoes finished the regular season at 13-12 and became the Eastern Regional representative into the national tournament, which runs from March 18-20 at Oakland City, IN.

Geneva’s men’s basketball team won its final regular season game of the year with a home victory over Westminster on February 23rd to finish the season over the .500 mark, which officially made them eligible for the post-season. The problem for Geneva may be the 25 days off between the end of the regular season and the start of the NCCAA nationals.

When asked about the possible rustiness of his club, head coach Jeff Santarsiero had the perfect response. “When the alternative was to play again in November, we feel like our guys will be ready,” Santarsiero, Geneva’s second all-time leader in coaching victories also commented on his team receiving an at-large bid. “This is a great opportunity for our guys. We feel like we’ve earned this chance and we intend to take advantage of this opportunity. Our guys are excited and we are thrilled with getting the chance to keep our season alive.”

Geneva will learn its opening round opponent late next week when the brackets are released. The Golden Tornadoes will depart for Indiana on March 16th to prepare for round one two days later.
