EIGHT IS ENOUGH IN OPENING CROSS COUNTRY MEET

New Wilmington, PA –Geneva’s cross country teams opened the 2008 season at Westminster College on Saturday in a field of 14 women’s teams and 12 men’s teams. One thing head coach Bret Otte can say after day one is that his teams are consistent. Both the men and women brought back eighth place finishes with the women’s team compiling 210 points and the men picking up 173 points on the day.

On the women’s side, senior Rebecca VanRegenmorter finished seventh overall in a time of 24:44. Fellow senior Nicole Okerlund came across the line in 26th position in a time of 26:17. Sarah Davis (67th), Sarah Wilson (81st) and Anna Ford (97th) rounded out the top five finishers for the Golden Tornadoes in a field of 139 women racers.

In men’s action, it turned out to be the Josh and Josh show as Josh Gunnett and Josh Falk finished 10th and 11th respectively in times of 28:34 and 28:36. Ryan Thorn came across the line in 28th position with a time of 29:43, while teammates Chuck Walters (73rd) and Matt Reeves (98th) rounded out the scoring.

Geneva will next be in action on September 13th when it travels to another PAC foe in Waynesburg University.
