MCLAUGHLIN RECEIVES NATIONAL PLAYER
OF THE WEEK HONORS
BeaverFalls, P A – Geneva’s tennis team played just one match last week in defeating Chatham College by the score of 8-1. Freshman Maura McLaughlin certainly made the most of her opportunities by helping Geneva to a victory with a couple wins of her own.
McLaughlin, a freshman from Martinsburg, WV, won her matches at #5 singles and #3 doubles in very impressive fashion. She cruised to a straight set 6-0, 6-0 victory in singles and also pulled off an impressive 8-1 decision with doubles partner Beth Ragonesi.
Geneva’s tennis team is off to a 2-3 start, but has not yet played a conference match in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference. McLaughlin is also 2-3 in her singles matches this year, but she certainly took advantage of her opportunity against Chatham. “This is a very special honor,” said head coach Mandee Craft. “We are not used to receiving national recognition so when it happens it is certainly much appreciated. Our ladies have worked very hard and I am thrilled for Maura to receive such a prestigious honor.”
Geneva will be back in action on Friday when it makes the long trip to Crestview Hills, KY to battle Thomas More. The Golden Tornadoes will return home to face W & J next Thursday.
Geneva has earned the approval of the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (ECFA) for its fundraising and financial practices.
