THE GREAT GATTI LEADS GENEVA TO SECOND STRAIGHT SWEEP

Ft. Pierce, FL – For the second time in as many days, Geneva College’s baseball team enjoyed some fun in the Florida sun with its second straight doubleheader sweep. On Wednesday the Golden Tornadoes defeated Northwestern, MN by the scores of 8-4 and 5-3. The doubleheader sweep helped Geneva improve to 6-2 on the season.

The Golden Tornadoes used a big inning in each game to make the difference. After two scoreless innings in game one, Geneva’s offense exploded for seven runs in the top of the third. Jon Jurinko knocked in a pair with a double and Joel Gatti smacked a three-run homer to cap the rally. Freshman Mike Trn went four innings in his first collegiate start to earn his first victory.

Game two proved to be a bit more difficult as it took six innings for the Geneva offense to get on track. Trailing 3-0 into the bottom of the sixth, the Golden Tornadoes used a five-run sixth inning to take control. Gatti again came up big with a two-run knock to spark the rally. Phil Shallenberger went the distance and allowed just six hits to pick up the victory.

Geneva will enjoy a couple days off before taking on Bethany College in a Saturday doubleheader.
