BATS SILENCED ON FINAL DAY OF SPRING TRIP, GENEVA DROPS TWO

Kissimmee, FL – It was the first time during its spring trip that the Geneva College softball team didn’t split a doubleheader. Unfortunately, the trip ended with a pair of 2-1 losses to Ramapo and Hope. The doubleheader loss dropped Geneva’s overall record to 4-6 as their swing through Florida came to an end. Geneva’s offense managed just two runs in the final three games of the trip as they ended their southern visit with three consecutive one-run losses, including a tough 2-1 loss to 21st ranked Ramapo College.

Geneva got outstanding pitching performances from Ashley Archer and Rebekah Wahl on Saturday but both hurlers suffered hard luck losses. In seven innings of work, Archer allowed just one earned run on five hits. She struck out nine including the first four batters of the game. Ramapo took advantage of a dropped fly ball in the second inning to post a pair of runs. The Golden Tornadoes responded with a run of their own in the third inning when Sam Bautista scored on a throwing error that followed a base hit off of the bat of Martha Adams. Geneva managed only two hits in the game one loss.

Game two was much of the same for the Geneva offense. The Golden Tornadoes had just four hits in the night cap including a pair of singles from Lexi Svingos. Kara Zimmerman delivered an RBI single in the seventh to cut Geneva’s deficit in half, but the Golden Tornadoes could not get the equalizer. Wahl pitched five innings and allowed two runs on five hits. Julie DiLonardo pitched a scoreless sixth inning for the Golden Tornadoes.

Geneva will begin its northern schedule next Thursday when it travels to LaRoche College. The home opener for the Golden Tornadoes will be a week from today against Penn State Greater Allegheny.
