Rain Doesn't Dampen Geneva Victory

Beaver Falls, PA – The rain and wind on Monday afternoon could not dampen the spirits of the Geneva College women’s tennis team. Even more important, the elements could not derail the Golden Tornadoes as they posted their third consecutive victory with a 6-1 victory over Washington & Jefferson. The victory moved Geneva to 5-4 on the season as it jumped over the .500 mark for the first time since a 1-0 record following the season opener.

While the rain did hamper the six singles matches, the three doubles contests went off without a hitch. Geneva swept the doubles action with all three matches going the Golden Tornadoes’ way by scores of 8-5, 8-2 and 8-6.

Rain postponed #1 and #5 singles, but Geneva did manage to win three of the other four singles matches. Kara Zimmerman won her match by a convincing 6-0, 6-1 count. Teammate Maura McLaughlin had an even easier time with a straight set 6-0, 6-0 victory. Finally, Havilah Mohler picked up a victory in #6 singles by the scores of 6-4, 6-4.

The Golden Tornadoes will head to Bethany on Wednesday and Chatham on Thursday for back to back PAC contests.
