Geneva Wins Fifth Straight

Pittsburgh, PA – The first day of October looked a whole like the last two weeks of September as the Geneva College women’s tennis team cruised to its fifth straight victory with a 7-2 decision over Chatham University on Thursday. The victory helped the Golden Tornadoes move to 7-4 on the season.

Thursday’s victory was the second for Geneva over Chatham after defeating the Cougars in the opening match of the season exactly one month ago on September 1st. The Golden Tornadoes continued their solid play in doubles competition with two out of three victories in doubles play. Chelsea Cover and Kara Zimmerman teamed up for an 8-5 victory in #1 doubles while teammates Maura McLaughlin and Bethany Ragonesi were dominant in an 8-1 win in #3 doubles.

Geneva was equally as effective in six singles matches with victories in five out of six. Zimmerman, McLaughlin, Ragonesi and Havilah Mohler each won straight set decisions. Amy Weller was taken to a tie-breaker after splitting two sets. Weller prevailed in the tie-breaker by the count of 7-4.

The Golden Tornadoes will travel to Washington & Jefferson next Monday before returning home on October 10th for the home finale against Waynesburg.
