Geneva Falls to Westminster in Overtime

Beaver Falls, PA – Geneva’s women’s soccer team got something on Friday it hadn’t enjoyed in two matches. The Golden Tornadoes finally found the net, but it wasn’t enough in a 2-1 overtime loss to Westminster. The Golden Tornadoes struck in the first half but couldn’t make the goal stand up as the Titans tied the game midway through the second half and picked up the game winner six minutes into overtime. The loss was Geneva’s third straight and dropped its record to 7-6 while Westminster improved to 11-4-1.

The Golden Tornadoes were playing without junior goalkeeper Lauren Londino who had started in each of the first 12 matches. Freshman Bethany Podnar made her first collegiate start in filled in admirably. The freshman made nine saves and allowed two goals in the loss. Geneva out shot Westminster in the first half but by game’s end the Titans held a 23-10 edge.

Geneva opened the scored in the 29th minute when Elise Mann fed a ball through the Westminster defense to Maura Allen who found the net for her fifth goal of the season. The Titans tied the game in the 67th minute and that goal forced overtime for the second time this year for Geneva’s women. Samantha Killmeyer found the net in the first overtime session for the game winner.

Geneva will play at Chatham and Saint Vincent next week before returning home for the home finale against Waynesburg on October 28th.
