The Great Eight, Indoor Track Kicks off With Impressive Results

Moon Twp, PA – It didn’t take long for the men’s and women’s indoor track and field team at Geneva College to make a splash in 2010. The Golden Tornadoes opened their indoor season at the Robert Morris University Invitational on Saturday and Geneva walked away with eight student-athletes having qualified for the NCCAA national meet in February.

Competing as the only division III school, Geneva was going up against DII and DI programs in every event. Despite the competition, Geneva made its mark with seven men and one woman reaching qualifications for the NCCAA nationals.

The highlight event for Geneva came in the 55 meter dash where four Golden Tornadoes reached national qualifying times. Corey Fraction, Stephen Polite, Josh Pollitt and Josh Moore each posted qualifying times with Fraction registering a 6.64 second mark. Pollitt also qualified in the 55 meter hurdles as he finished third overall with a time of 8.1 seconds. Shaka Sydnor and Fraction qualified in the long jump while Polite also managed a qualifying distance in the triple jump at 12.6 meters.

In the shot put, Dan Dillman (12.96 meters) and Tyler French (12.76 meters) each posted NCCAA national qualifying numbers. In women’s action, Aisha Moore qualified in the triple jump while Shannon Rech had a tremendous effort in the 3000 meter event with a third place overall time of 11:53.
