Geneva Falls to Grove City

Beaver Falls, PA – The athletic directors from Geneva and Grove City made Saturday night’s women’s basketball game a bit more interesting for those involved. In the first ever athletic director’s challenge, the losing AD would have to wear opposing colors to next week’s chapel service. As it turned out, Geneva’s Dr. Kim Gall better get used to the idea of wearing crimson and white. The Golden Tornadoes dropped a 62-48 decision to Grove City on Saturday as the Wolverines moved to 12-11 and in the process swept the season series from Geneva. The Golden Tornadoes saw their record fall to 8-15 on the season.

Grove City got off to a hot start by hitting four of its first five shots in opening up a double digit lead midway through the first half. After 20 minutes, the Golden Tornadoes trailed 33-20 having committed 16 turnovers and making only 14 field goals.

Geneva could never get the deficit inside of ten points in the second half as the Wolverines iced the game away from the foul line by making 12-15 from the stripe for the game. “We had a difficult time handling their defensive pressure,” said head coach Renee Drake. “They are an outstanding defensive team and you have to be very efficient to get open looks and we were not able to accomplish that on a consistent basis.”

Sophomore Alyse Scarsella continued her break out season with 20 points and nine rebounds to lead Geneva in both categories. Beaver County native and PAC leading scorer Christine Slater led the Grove City attack with identical numbers of 20 points and nine rebounds.

Geneva will play its final home game of the season on Wednesday night when it hosts Westminster. The Golden Tornadoes close out the season next Saturday night at Waynesburg.
