Improvements Continue For Geneva Track at W & J

Washington, PA – First year Geneva track and field coach Brian Yowler continues to be impressed by his student-athletes and the impressive strides each is making as the season moves forward. On Saturday, the Golden Tornadoes competed at the Washington & Jefferson College Invitational and the improvements continued to roll in for Geneva. Geneva’s women posted17 points and finished 12th overall while the men’s team was eighth out of 14 with 43 total points.

The unseasonably warm weather took its toll on the Geneva distance runners, but the conditions were ideal for the sprinters. The women’s team posted a total of ten season best performances including three from Liz Michalak. Michalak finished with season best efforts in the 110 meter high hurdles, 100 meter dash and pole vault. Geneva’s Shannon Rech finished second overall in the 5K race with a time of 20:19. Other female highlights included a pair of top ten sprinting finishes for Aisha Moore in the 100 and 200 meter events. Moore also finished eighth overall in the triple jump. Kayla Jackson posted a pair of top tens in the discus and javelin.

Geneva’s men’s team featured 17 season best performances on the day. Monas Cunningham stole the show with a third place in the 110 meter hurdles and a fourth place finish in the 400 hurdles. Cunningham qualified for the NCCAA national meet in both events. Teammate Corey Fraction will join Cunningham at the NCCAA nationals after qualifying in the 100 meter race on Saturday. Other highlights for the men included Stephen Polite and Shaka Sydnor finishing four and five in the triple jump while Tyler French and Dan Dillman again posted top ten finishes in the shot put.
