Altoona, PA – The Geneva College women’s tennis team surpassed last year’s win total on Friday afternoon as it picked up its eighth victory of the season and moved to 8-4 with its fourth consecutive victory. The Golden Tornadoes stepped out of conference play on Friday and handed Penn State Altoona a 7-2 setback. Geneva’s overall record of 8-4 includes a 5-2 mark in the PAC.

The Golden Tornadoes opened the match by taking two out of three doubles matches. Julie Kline and Jen Bullock teamed up for the first time in 2012 and came away with an 8-2 victory in number one doubles. Geneva’s number three doubles team of Alison Beattie and Sarah Cypher won their match by the count of 8-4.

In singles action, Geneva won five of six matches highlighted by a three-set marathon victory by Julie Kline in top singles action. Kline dropped the first set 6-4 but rallied to win 6-1 in set two and take the tie-breaker set 10-7. Other singles winners included Alyssa Kuhn (6-2, 6-2), Samantha Jensen (7-5, 6-0), Darcie Shaffer (7-5, 6-4) and Jen Bullock (6-0, 6-1).

The Golden Tornadoes get back into conference action on Saturday with a challenging match at Saint Vincent College at 11 am. Geneva will close out the conference schedule on Monday at Westminster. The PAC Championships are scheduled for October 19-20.
