A new era began in 2009 with the hiring of Brian Yowler as Geneva’s new cross country coach for men and women. Yowler is entering his fourth year as head coach of the Cross Country teams, in addition to taking over the track and field program in the spring of 2010. Yowler spent three years as an assistant coach for both cross country and track & field before taking over as the head coach for both programs. With a passion to coach and participate in distance running, Yowler made an enormous impact on the Geneva cross country program in his first three years as an assistant and now as the head coach.
Yowler is still very active in his own racing life as he has continued to run marathons himself with nearly 20 under his belt, including Boston. “Being active in my own running life is an important element of coaching these student-athletes,” explained Yowler. “Our runners feel like I am in the trenches with them at every practice and competition.”
Yowler graduated from IUP in 1994 before heading to the Penn State University College of Medicine. He received his Ph.D. for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Penn State in 2002. In addition to the responsibilities of head cross country coach, Yowler will continue working as a professor in Geneva’s Biology department.
Yowler and his wife Tracy reside in Beaver Falls with their two children.
Geneva awards bachelor's degrees in nearly 40 undergraduate major areas of study and offers seven master’s degree programs.
