National Day of Prayer

2009 National Day of Prayer

Beaver Falls, Pa – Geneva College and McCarl’s will host a prayer breakfast to observe the National Day of Prayer. The breakfast will be held at Geneva College in Alexander Dining Hall Thursday, May 7 from 7:30 to 9 a.m. The keynote speaker will be Major Robert Carney from the Beaver County Chapter of the Salvation Army.

Several community leaders will participate in the program including Dean Smith, Geneva College Bible department; June Miller, Beaver Valley Pregnancy Support Center; Honorable George E. James; and Mark Peterson, station manager for WBVP/WMBA.

The annual National Day of Prayer was first enacted in 1952 by a joint resolution by Congress and signed by President Truman. In 1988, the law was amended and signed by President Reagan, permanently setting the day as the first Thursday of every May. Each year, the president signs a proclamation, encouraging all Americans to pray on this day. The National Day of Prayer breakfast hopes to celebrate and continue this tradition.

The breakfast is free and open to the public. A free-will offering will be taken to support two local non-profit ministries, Tiger Pause Youth Ministry and Pine Valley Bible Camp.
