Ft. Pierce, FL – Bethany and Geneva opened the 2012 PAC baseball schedule in Ft. Pierce, FL on Saturday afternoon. In the first of three games the two teams will play in the next few days Bethany snuck past Geneva 4-3. The loss dropped Geneva to 3-5 overall as it opened its first official season as a full member of the PAC.
Geneva only generated four hits in the game but took advantage of a throwing error and bases loaded hit by pitch to post three runs in the second inning to take a 3-1 lead. The Bison responded with single runs in the third, fifth and seventh innings to reclaim the lead. The Golden Tornadoes were never able to mount a true threat in the final innings.
Mike Trn started for Geneva and went five innings allowing three earned runs on five hits. Ryan Nolt surrendered just one earned run in four innings of relief but was handed the loss.
Geneva and Bethany will conclude the three-game series on Monday with a doubleheader at 9 am. The Golden Tornadoes will return to Beaver Falls following Monday’s double dip as it will prepare for a four-game series against Houghton on Friday and Saturday at 33rd Street Field.
