Academic Convocation wrap up

Drs. Bob Frazier adn Jeff Cole are winners of this years Excellence in Scholarship and Teaching Awards respectively.Geneva College recently held its annual academic convocation to welcome the class of 2013 and recognize this year’s recipients of the annual Excellence in Teaching and Excellence in Scholarship Awards.

Dr. Adel Aiken, professor of education and the 2008 recipient of the Excellence in Teaching Award, offered an address entitled “The Heart of the Child,” emphasizing the importance of story and simple trust even after we reach adulthood.  “Stories open our mind to who we can become, with the wisdom of an adult and a child’s wonder,” she said. Aiken also warned the audience against “the danger of losing a childlike heart when we set aside our childish ways.” To hear her address, click on the Academic Convocation link below.

Provost Ken Carson presented the Excellence in Scholarship Award to Dr. Robert Frazier, professor of philosophy. Frazier is a native of Beaver Falls and served as a pastor for many years before earning his doctorate from the State University of New York at Buffalo. He has been teaching full time at Geneva since 2003 and currently sits as president of the faculty senate.

Dr. Jeffrey Cole, professor of history, received the Excellence in Teaching Award. In addition to teaching history, Cole serves as coordinator of Geneva’s twelve-credit humanities core curriculum and is the director of Geneva’s Semester in Rome program.
