Geneva announces biopsychology major

Geneva College has established a new major in biopsychology. Recent advances in the understanding of brain function and how it relates to behavior have led to the rapid expansion of this interdisciplinary field, and Geneva’s program will equip students to take advantage of these dramatic advances.

The biopsychology major at Geneva College is unique in that while it explores the relationships between physiological and psychological systems, it also integrates biology, neuroscience and psychology with the Christian faith.

“In an academic climate that leans heavily towards a naturalistic explanation for all biological and behavioral phenomena, Geneva College brings the metaphysical reality of the triune God to bear on these conversations,” says Dr. Danny Hitchcock, professor of psychology. He and Professor of Biology Dr. David Essig are the faculty advisors for the program.

A collaborative effort between Geneva’s biology and psychology departments, the new major will effectively prepare students for graduate training in cognitive and behavioral neuroscience or human factors psychology; or for entry-level positions at pharmaceutical or health product companies, federal, state, and local public health programs, or agencies conducting biomedical research.

Geneva College is a comprehensive Christian college of the arts, sciences and professional studies. Founded in the tradition of the Reformed Christian faith, Geneva prepares students to serve Christ in all areas of society: work, family and the church. Geneva College’s philosophy of education is based on the Foundational Concepts of Christian Higher Education.
