| Blake named NCCAA national player of the week | ||||
Sophomore outside hitter Adriane Blake (Glen Burnie, MD) was a key component to Geneva’s success over the weekend. Blake had 63 kills (4.5/gm) and a hitting percentage of .293 in those four matches. She also had seven service aces, 77 digs and five blocks to stuff the Geneva stat sheet all weekend. For her efforts, Blake was named the NCCAA (National Christian College Athletic Association) national player of the week. Along with teammate Brandi Snavely, Blake was one of five players named to the Hiram All-tournament team. For the season, Blake leads Geneva with 112 kills and 139 digs in Geneva’s first eight matches of the 2008 campaign. “We have such high expectations for Adriane, it is sometimes hard for her to live up to it,” said Geneva co-head coach Wendy Smith. “This past weekend she was outstanding and was certainly a key component to our success in winning the tournament. The sky is the limit for her and we are certainly thrilled for her to be honored on a national level.” Geneva’s volleyball team is enjoying a week away from the court before getting back into action next Wednesday. The Golden Tornadoes open PAC play on September 17 against W & J and Westminster. Geneva opens its home schedule on September 20 with matches against Saint Vincent and Thiel. |
