February chapel speakers

Geneva College will welcome author and speaker L.L. Barkat and the Christian theatre group Acts of Renewal for the final two chapel programs of February. Chapel is held each Wednesday at 10:10 a.m. in Geneva’s Metheny Fieldhouse.

Barkat will speak on February 17, and Acts of Renewal will perform on February 24. Acts of Renewal will also hold an evening program on February 24 at 7 p.m. in the John H. White Chapel. These events are free and open to the public.

Barkat is the author of InsideOut: poems and Stone Crossing: Finding Grace in Hard and Hidden Places, and she is also a speaker for a New York Bible ministry. She serves as the managing editor for High Calling Blogs and is a staff writer for The Curator. Barkat also has experience as a magazine designer and editorial consultant, working with groups like InterVarsity Christian Fellowship and publications such as Christianity Today. After fulfilling her engagement at Geneva College, Barkat will speak at the Jubilee Conference in Pittsburgh (February 19-21), sponsored by the Coalition for Christian Outreach.

Acts of Renewal are comprised of a husband and wife dedicated to producing “excellent theatre that glorifies God leading audiences toward hope, toward goodness, toward a hunger for God in Christ.” Jim Shores and Carol Anderson-Shores have performed at over 60 colleges and universities, as well as conferences and churches, providing illustrations for a variety of speakers’ talks. Their voices have also been heard in radio drama for programs such as FamilyLife Today and Focus on the Family’s Adventures in Odyssey. The couple addresses a range of relevant topics in their performances, such as dating and relationships, broken families, authenticity, eating disorders, missions and more.
