GVALS speaker Fred Barnes

Fred BarnesFred Barnes, American political commentator and executive editor of The Weekly Standard, will be visiting Geneva College from November 17–18, 2011 to take part in the Geneva Visiting Lecturer and Artist Series (GVALS). He will be speaking on Thursday, November 17 in the John White Chapel of Old Main at 7:30 p.m. On Friday, Barnes will appear in Skye Lounge of the Student Center at 10:10 a.m.

Barnes has made many appearances on the Fox News Channel program Special Report with Bret Baier. He was also the co-host of the Fox show The Beltway Boys. Barnes served for 10 years as a White House correspondent for The New Republic and was a regular panelist on The McLaughlin Group, a public affairs television program, until 1998.

Barnes has received numerous accolades for the humor and quick wit of his political columns and other writings. He received the highest rating of four stars from The Media Guide who called him “a great political reporter-columnist" whose material is "exquisitely timed."

Barnes recently wrote Rebel-in-Chief: Inside the Bold and Controversial Presidency of George W. Bush, published by Crown Forum. He is also a member of the board of the Institute on Religion and Democracy.

During his engagements at Geneva, Barnes will be discussing the latest developments in Washington politics and the 2012 presidential race. He will also be sharing his perspective on how Christians should look at politics.

Both of Barnes’ appearances at Geneva are free and open to the public.
