“Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day” is part of a national movement which aims to empower young women to pursue careers in the field of engineering. On Thursday, February 21, 2013, Geneva College’s Department of Engineering and Computer Science is joining this effort by hosting girls in grades 4 to 12 for dinner and various age-appropriate engineering activities and competitions. A concurrent information session for parents will also be provided.
Organized by the National Engineers Week Foundation, “Introduce a Girl to Engineering” is part of Engineers Week and is designed to “shows girls how creative and collaborative engineering is and how engineers are changing our world.”
Activities will be conducted by female engineering students from Geneva College who are currently working to establish a collegiate chapter of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE). For more than six decades, SWE has “focused on issues of interest to women specializing in engineering and technical careers.”
