Professor Kenneth Hoffman (1946-2010)

Professor Ken HoffmanProfessor Kenneth Hoffman joined the Lord in Heaven on Thursday, November 18, 2010. He will be greatly missed by his friends, family, parishioners and the entire campus community.

An Adjunct Assistant Professor of Bible, Professor Hoffman came to Geneva College in 1981 as a part-time instructor in the department of psychology, and joined the Bible department in 1988. Known for a remarkable sense of humor, he was beloved by the many students who took part in his Bible discussions, attended his classes and heard him speak at Chapel.

Professor Hoffman graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1969 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and received a master’s degree from Purdue University in 1973. As recounted in his truly inspiring testimony, he came to accept Jesus as Lord and Savior while pursuing a doctorate in Freudian psychology and was then called to the seminary by the Holy Spirit. He obtained a master’s of divinity from the Reformed Presbyterian Theological Seminary in 1980.

In addition to decades of committed service to Geneva, Professor Hoffman served as pastor to the congregation of the Tusca Area Reformed Presbyterian Church in Brighton Township, Pa. for the past 28 years.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Janice Stewart Hoffman and daughter, Elizabeth R. Hoffman; both graduates of Geneva College. He is also survived by brother and sister-in-law Robert and Carol Hoffman; sister, Barbara Hoffman; his in-laws; numerous nieces and nephews; and loving companion Scoot.
