WORLD Magazine, along with the American Bible Society, will host the Hope for the Next Generation dinner at Geneva College on Thursday, October 18 in Alexander Hall. During the evening, WORLD will present the annual Hope Award for Effective Compassion, which is given to small Christian organizations that fight poverty without receiving government funding.

The five Hope Award finalists are: Fathers in the Field, pairing fatherless children with men who take them on recreational activities; The Root Cellar, a group that shows refugees how to make a living in America; Hope Academy, a Christian school in inner-city Minneapolis; WorkFaith Connection, helping Houston’s least-employable men and women find work; and international winner, Samaritan Strategy Africa, helping the poor in various spiritual ways. This is the seventh year of WORLD's Hope Award for Effective Compassion, and the first with an international finalist.

Each of the five finalists will receive $4,000. In addition, WORLD provides the opportunity for the public to vote for a favorite program, and the winner will receive an additional $21,000. For the full stories of each the five finalists and to vote, visit World Magazine’s website. Voting ends September 30.

WORLD Magazine invites the public to register and come for an evening of dinner and discussion from 6–9 p.m. on Thursday, October 18. Writers and editors of the publication will attend, including editor-in-chief Marvin Olasky and founder Joel Belz. The early bird cost is $30 per person before September 30. Afterward, the cost is $35. Group discounts are available.
