Big Band music returns to campus

Geneva College Jazz BandThe Geneva College Jazz Band will present its annual spring concert, “In the Mood XVI: Big Band Music Returns,” on Saturday, April 9 at 8 p.m. in the John White Chapel of Old Main.

“The band continues the tradition of providing a look into the past at the era of the Big Bands, and the wonderful and ever-popular swing music of the ’30s and ’40s,” says Director Don Kephart. “The annual jazz band concert has become one of the most popular events on campus each spring, providing a high energy concert that continues to entertain and attract all ages.”

Some of this year’s selections include “Baby, It’s Cold Outside,” “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy,” “Lil Darlin’” and “Swingtime in the Rockies.” The program will include several vocal solos in addition to the solo features performed within the band.

Currently the band consists of 20 students, shaping the traditional look of the early swing bands with contained brass, saxophone and rhythm sections.

Tickets are required and limited. Contact the Music Department to reserve tickets at 724-847-6660 or rcvos@geneva.edu. The price is $6 for adults and $3 for students. The doors open at 7:15 p.m. on the evening of the concert and seating is first-come, first-served.
