| Justice Week 2010 |
One of Geneva College’s biggest and finest events has officially arrived, Justice Week! This week is dedicated to start the awareness of social justice in our community and around the world. It is a time for the students and faculty to pray, think, learn and reflect. “I am pretty excited for Justice Week. We are co-programming with The Center for Faith and Practice to optimize our outreach. We have musician and avid tweeter Joy Ike coming to play a small concert and kick off the week on Monday. We have other organizations coming in such as Invisible Children and the Harvest Food Co-op, which is showing a film called Food, Inc. So I think it will be a very informational and inspirational experience,” says Marshal A. Miller, Executive of Student Activities. Justice Week started out as a club event on campus during the 2006-2007 academic year. It was first organized by the International Justice Mission club and the Acting on AIDS club. Later that year, Student Activities became interested and decided to join in on the project. In the spring of 2008, it became a platform for the campus to talk about social injustice. With the help of The Center for Faith and Practice, Student Activities worked hard over the summer to prepare this year’s Justice Week. “Mike Loomis and I just talked about what we can do differently this year and what we hope the students will get out of it,” says Ryan Holt, Director of Student Programs “The official planning started when the Student Activities staff came back on campus; we’ve been working very diligently for this.” This year’s Justice Week is packed with events so be sure to get involved and be part of Geneva College’s mission to spread the awareness of social justice.
