Bells toll for lives lost

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – Geneva College and the Pennsylvanians for Human Life (PHL) are encouraging churches in the region to ring their steeple bells Saturday, January 22 to memorialize the 32nd anniversary of Roe v. Wade. Churches participating in the event, called Life Ring, will begin a funeral tolling sequence at 12 p.m. and end at 12:32 p.m.

The traditional funeral bell serves as a memorial for lives lost. Life Ring marks each year of legalized abortion with a single tenor bell toll each minute for 32 minutes. During that time church congregations are encourage to pray for the end of legalized abortion. Life Ring is an effective way to remind communities of the moral crisis of abortion in the United States.

Legalized abortion has taken the lives of over 45 million unborn children since the 1973 ruling. In 2002, an estimated 35,167 abortions were performed in Pennsylvania alone.
