Geneva Colleges Master’s of Education in Higher Education program will host the drive-in workshop Maximizing College Student Success on Tuesday, November 5, 2013. The event is intended for higher education professionals of all kinds, from those in student development to faculty members, and will run from 9:30 a.m. to 3p.m. in Skye Lounge of the Student Center.

Laurie-Schreiner-2012.jpgThe one-day seminar features author and Chair of the Department of Higher Education at Azusa Pacific University Dr. Laurie Schreiner.  She will present topics that explore and evaluate issues in higher education that are crucial to college student success.

“Given the national conversation about college student success, we thought that it was a timely moment to resurrect the drive-in workshop and are delighted that Dr. Laurie Schreiner will be challenging participants to explore this critically important topic for all colleges and universities,” said  Dr. Dave Guthrie, Director of Geneva’s higher education program

Dr. Schreiner has 30 years of higher education experience as a psychology professor and associate academic dean. An award-winning teacher and researcher, her most recent publications include the edited book Thriving in Transitions: A Research-Based Approach to Student Success, an article on engaged learning in the Journal of Excellence in College Teaching, an article on student satisfaction and retention in the Journal of College Student Retention, and an article on the impact of faculty and staff on high-risk students for the Journal of College Student Development

She is also the co-author of The Student Satisfaction Inventory, which is used on over 1,600 campuses, and of Helping Sophomores Succeed. Schreiner has written numerous publications on positive psychology, faculty development, strengths-based teaching and advising, and has consulted with over 100 colleges and universities on these issues.

“Several years back we launched the drive-in workshop idea for two reasons—first, as a means of partnering with colleagues from other institutions to consider relevant topics and ideas; and second, to generate good discussions on important issues for our colleagues at Geneva,” explained Guthrie.

The total cost for the workshop-featuring plenary sessions with Dr. Schreiner, several one-hour seminar options, lunch and a book table-is $15.

The $15 fee may be paid online, submitted on the day of the workshop, or mailed to Geneva College, ATTN: MAHE/Drive-In Workshop, 3200 College Avenue, Beaver Falls, PA 15010.
