Measure for Measure opens this weekend

Measure for Measure, a William Shakespeare play, will be performed by Geneva College students on the weekends of February 18 - 20 and 25 - 27 at 8 p.m. with Saturday matinees on the 20 and 27 at 2 p.m.

Under the direction of Dr. David Kuhns, professor of English, the performances will take place in the Studio Theater and are open to all members of the community.

“We try to do a Shakespeare play every three or four years because it’s an important learning experience to act — as well as read — the plays,” says Kuhns. “[Measure for Measure] is more complicated physiologically and spiritually, including themes of justice, mercy and moral integrity. It’s challenging and it’s modern. It presents a world we should all recognize: it’s difficult to be a Christian.”

Junior Andrew Wright will star in the lead role as the Duke beside senior Brenna Garda, who takes the role of Isabella. Both students are veteran participants in the Geneva College theater program. Jesse Carroll, sophomore, will star as Angelo in his third role on the Studio Theater stage.

Students involved in the play returned to campus from Christmas break three days early to begin working on the performance.

General admission is $5, with a reduced price of $3 for students and seniors. Children under the age of twelve are charge $2, which is also the group rate. Geneva faculty and staff may attend for $3.50. Call the Geneva box office to reserve tickets at 724-847-5099 or by e-mail at genevatheater@gmail.com.
