Beaver Falls, PA – There were times during Geneva’s first week on the softball field that senior pitcher Julie DiLonardo appeared to be unhittable. Winning four games in the first week of action, DiLonardo was named the Presidents’ Athletic Conference pitcher of the week. The 2012 season marks the first that Geneva players are eligible for such honors after spending a four-year provisional period after moving to NCAA Division III from the NAIA.
DiLonardo posted a 1.62 ERA in 56 innings of work. She struck out 58 batters including a school-record 15 punch outs in Geneva’s shut-out victory over Eastern Nazarene on Saturday. DiLonardo has won 21 games in each of the last two years and sits just two wins (49) shy of the school’s all-time record of 51 victories.
The Golden Tornadoes open the northern portion of their schedule on Friday when they host Houghton College in a 3 pm doubleheader.
