Geneva hosts theatre camp

This summer, Geneva College and the Henry Mancini Musical Theatre Awards are collaborating to host a musical theatre camp for junior and senior high school students. Staffed by students, alumni and faculty from Geneva’s theatre and music programs, the camp trains area youth in singing, acting and dance. The program continues through June 24, and a final showcase will be held at 7:30 p.m. on June 25 and 26 in Geneva’s Bagpiper Theater. Tickets are $5, and the show is open to the public.

Camp sessions are being held in the evenings and weekends, where students rehearse selections from Broadway hits The Wizard of Oz, The Wiz and Wicked. Classes in acting, elocution, vocal technique, make-up, stage movement and stage combat make up the curriculum.

Geneva College writing major Bonnie Smith has enjoyed helping with the rehearsals. "It's been great to see the energy and passion these kids have. They're here because they want to get better at what they love, and they grow more every day. It's exciting to see them enjoying themselves."
