| Noted commentator and public intellectual George Weigel to speak on campus |
The Colloquia Series has been designed as a forum where the Geneva College community and local residents may engage in academic discussion and debate. Fostering compelling and provocative discussion on socio-cultural, scientific, religious, literary, political, economic and educational issues, the series attempts to drive at the heart of many of the ideas and practices that shape our lives and the world in which we live.
Weigel holds 11 honorary doctorates, and has been awarded both the papal cross Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice and the Gloria Artis gold medal by the Republic of Poland. Weigel and his wife Joan have three children and one grandchild, and live in North Bethesda, Maryland. His first lecture, The Cube, the Cathedral and the Election will be held on Thursday, Sept. 18 at 7:00 p.m., in Skye Lounge. The second of the series, Against the Grain: Christianity and Democracy, War and Peace will be held at 10:10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 19. There is no fee for admission. Skye Lounge is in the Student Center on the Geneva College Campus in Beaver Falls. Geneva College is a comprehensive Christian college of the arts, sciences and professional studies. Founded in the tradition of the Reformed Christian faith, Geneva prepares students to serve Christ in all areas of society: work, family and the church.
