Connecting to Campus

pic-fall.jpgGreetings Geneva parents! The summer has once again flown by, and if yours was anything like mine, you are finding it hard to believe that it has already come and gone. I hope that yours was filled with wonderful adventures and time well spent with family and friends. We are now off to another year of academic faithfulness here at Geneva, and I am just as excited as ever to see what God has in store for our students. Throughout the course of a year, many students choose to connect through a variety of Geneva experiences—varsity athletics, student leadership, music ensembles, student activities and much more. If your student is looking for new ways to make connections and get involved, here are some of my recommendations:

Campus Clubs. Clubs offer a variety of opportunities to get plugged in on campus. Whether they enjoy the arts, service opportunities or joining an accredited chapter of an academic club, there is something for everyone. We have over 35 different campus clubs with a variety of options for getting connected and involved. Our annual Cokes & Connections event is always a great way to discover campus clubs, local churches, and community volunteer opportunities. This year, the event will be held on September 5 starting at 10 a.m.

Intramural Sports. From flag football to volleyball to ultimate Frisbee to ping-pong—intramural sports are about connecting students. Through these activities, we hope students will establish healthy habits, build character, learn teamwork and develop conflict resolution skills. Ultimately, the Geneva College Intramural Program is just one of the many ways in which our institution pursues its commitment toward authentic Christian community.

Leadership. At Geneva College, we enable students to discover their leadership potential by engaging them in intentional opportunities that develop their gifts, strengths and abilities for faithful service in Christ’s Kingdom. The Leadership Certificate Program is a co-curricular opportunity designed to provide students an efficient and exciting way of developing themselves as leaders in one of the following areas: Service & Discipleship, Cross-Cultural Awareness, Adventure-Based Education, or Health & Wellness. And students can also add a minor in leadership studies to their academic experience.

There you have it—three of my top recommendations for this coming year. If you think your student would be interested in any of these opportunities, encourage them to seek out information, which is always available in the Student Development Office located in the Student Center.
