Celebrating a Geneva Family!
One of the great joys of life happens when your children decide that they will love the same things that you love. Most importantly, we’ve experienced the pleasure of watching our children grow to love the Lord Jesus Christ and His Kingdom. But we have also seen them embrace baseball, art, blues music, Reformed theology, hikes in the woods, dogs, Mexican food and Dunkin Donuts coffee. So you can imagine how thrilled we were when two of our children chose attend Geneva College.
We first met as freshmen at Geneva and started dating in October of that year. Four years later, we graduated with far more than degrees in psychology. We also left the campus with a far deeper understanding of God, His Word and our callings in life. The foundation for so much of who we are today was established during our time on College Hill.
As our children reached the age when they started to think about college, they naturally thought that their parents’ alma mater was way too uncool to be considered as an option. But when our oldest daughter, Leah, spent a weekend on Geneva’s campus during a high school basketball tournament, she saw the school in a whole new light and soon changed her plans. She graduated from Geneva in May of 2011 with a degree in communications and is now flourishing in her role as a marketing coordinator with MedExpress.
Bethany and Leah Kiehl
Our youngest daughter, Bethany, was even more determined to go anywhere but Geneva in order to avoid the shadow of her big sister. But it only took a couple of weekend visits on campus with her sister to win her over, too. Both of our daughters have shown their love for Geneva during their time at college by working with the Admissions Department to recruit new students.
Bethany is a student ministry major and will be graduating after finishing her coursework this December. It has been a joy to see her not only increase in knowledge and maturity during her time at Geneva, but also in fruitfulness. Through her studies and serving with the Dare2XL tutoring program, which helps children with behavioral and academic problems in the Beaver Falls elementary schools, she has developed a deep heart for community development in inner cities and has a dream to open a business in that setting that would have an impact for the Gospel of Christ.
We love Geneva—and now our daughters love Geneva, too. Hopefully one day, they will share our joy of passing the love onto the next generation!
Please join with us in praying for Geneva and for the students that God has called to be here.
