Classes Offered

The Pisgah Program offers several “for-credit” classes in the experiential field. Each class is concentrated on a specific area within adventure education. These classes may be taken as electives for many fields of study or could fulfill certain PE or ministry requirements. Some of the classes include:

  • Challenge Course Facilitation & Ministry – 3 credits
    Develop an ability to assess a group's need, to design challenge course experiences, and to facilitate both low and high challenge course activities. This course develops technical skills, interpersonal skills, & adventure education ministry perspective.
  • Backpacking As a Ministry – 3 credits
    Learn how to design ministry programs in the wilderness context, and receive hands on experience in planning and leading a backpacking trip. This course includes training in skills such as route planning, stove usage, water purification, low impact camping, etc. and the exploration of ministry strategies and philosophies unique to this arena.
  • Rock Climbing – 1 credit (PED course) Learn the technical skills of rock climbing that are guaranteed to help you become a better climber.
    Methods of Experiential Education – 3 credits Gain a 1st hand experience of the profound impact of experiential education. Participate in an outdoor excursion, learn the methods of experiential education, and participate in a fully engaged heart, head, & hands experience.

 

Point of Excellence

Geneva College was selected to join the Undergraduate Microbial Genome Annotation Program, an initiative of the Department of Energy’s Joint Genome Institute (JGI).
