The Pittsburgh Promise

promise.pngGeneva College is proud to partner with the Pittsburgh Promise in helping students from the City of Pittsburgh accept the challenge of a rigorous, Christ-centered education.

The Pittsburgh Promise is a community commitment to help Pittsburgh students attain an education beyond high school and then continue to serve in the city. The organization’s vision is to ensure economic and social stability, discourage population loss, attract families to Pittsburgh and produce the qualified workers that the city’s businesses need in order to prosper.

A culturally diverse learning community enhances the academic experience for all students. Geneva’s commitment to this ideal is realized through the following programs:

  • Pittsburgh Promise Scholarship Matching Grant
Beginning with the 2013-14 academic year, Geneva College pledges to match Pittsburgh Promise scholarship money, guaranteeing that Promise scholars receive at least the amount of a matching grant (which includes any other Geneva awards) in addition to money received from the Promise. To receive a Promise scholarship, students must graduate from the Pittsburgh Public Schools, live in the City of Pittsburgh, maintain an average GPA of 2.5 and hold an attendance record of 90% in high school. Qualifying students can earn up to $40,000 in scholarships, which is paid over the course of four years. For more information or to apply for a Promise scholarship, click here.
  • The Academy: Campus and Community Leadership Training
The Academy is a Geneva College initiative designed to help students develop practical college success skills, equipping them to support one another and succeed academically as they grow into service-minded leaders. Participants attend a one-week residential program for college training with a priority on cultural intelligence and discovering a sense of purpose and leadership. In addition, upon successful completion of the program, participants receive a stipend toward books or tuition. To find out more and to apply to The Academy, click here.
