Geneva softball bats fall silent, Golden Tornadoes drop two

WINTER HAVEN, FL – Entering the day on a three-game winning streak, Geneva’s momentum was stopped completely. The Golden Tornadoes were shut out 2-0 by Staten Island and 5-0 by Catholic to finish their Florida trip 4-7.

“Apparently the bats were homesick and decided to leave Florida early,” said Geneva coach Van Zanic. “We pitched well but got no run support.

“We are still searching for the right combination of players. I’m hoping our veteran group steps up when the games start to matter.” Geneva pitcher Samantha Johnson (Franklin Regional) allowed just six hits in the opener, walking none while Andrea Hinds (Montrose, PA) took the loss in the second. The only hot bat for Geneva was freshman third baseman Lucia Fee (Mohawk), who had two hits in the second game. She finished her first Florida trip with 11 hits and a .389 batting average. The Golden Tornadoes hope to open play locally with a doubleheader at Mount Alysius Thursday.
