Geneva goes cold down the stretch; falls to Waynesburg 63-57

gcwbball13064.jpgBeaver Falls, PA - Geneva built a lead as big as 11 points in the second half and still led by eight points at 55-47 with 5:22 left, but scored only one basket the rest of the way and fell to Waynesburg. The Golden Tornadoes’ only basket in that fateful stretch was a jumper by senior Samantha Fisher (Hopewell) with 4:56 left. Geneva’s record falls to 3-17 and 2-12 in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference while Waynesburg improves to 11-10, 9-5.

“We need to learn how to finish,” said Geneva coach Lori Wynn. “We played well most of the game but we still need to learn how to win and that takes time.

“I can’t complain about the effort of these players, they played hard. We just need to take it to the next step.”

Geneva was led by sophomore Heidi Mann (Evangelical Christian Academy, CO) with 24 points while freshman Nicole Hyland (Penn-Trafford) added 12 points and led the team with eight rebounds.

Geneva next plays Wednesday at 5:30 at St. Vincent.
