Dave Cubakovic - DCP, Human Resources Grad

Dave Cubakovic

David Cubakovic understands better than most people that God determines our steps despite the paths we set for ourselves. David heard of Geneva College’s Degree Completion Program on the radio and decided to enroll. After spending 15 years in the grocery business, he felt that it was time to leave retail and believed that a degree in human resources would open new doors for him in a different field.

David found the DCP to be “very refreshing.” Since the program runs for 17 months with one evening class a week, he discovered that it was easy to balance his work and family responsibilities with class work. The DCP also offers 11 different locations over western Pennsylvania to accommodate students in different regions. David chose the Monroeville class because of its proximity to his home and work. Along with the benefits of a convenient schedule and location, he says that “the classes are well-structured and taught by excellent professors, many of them with real life experience in their respective courses.”

When David graduated the DCP with his bachelor’s degree in human resources, he found that his original plan to leave the retail industry changed drastically. In fact, he soon accepted a job with Giant Eagle and is now the store manager/director, a position he could not have achieved without his bachelor’s degree. But not only did the DCP enable him to obtain a degree and prepare him for the tasks associated with human resources, the Christian perspective enabled him to better his interactions with his store’s employees and customers. He says that the most beneficial aspect of the program was “the emphasis on the biblical dimensions of business.”

Currently David is a student in Geneva’s Master of Business Administration program and is working with the Giant Eagle Corporation Human Resources Department to further his position within the company. Although a position in another grocery store is not the job David initially intended, he recognizes that his plans are not always God’s plans and is joyfully pursuing the path God is setting before him. He encourages all people considering the program and currently enrolled in it to “have faith that the Lord is leading you to where He wants you to be.”
