November 6, 2007Tom Pyle called the meeting to order at 9:30 p.m. Josh Gmys was absent, and Chito Samaniego was his replacement. Conlan Walsh opened in prayer. I) Announcements 1) Katherine Bull moved to pass the minutes of Tuesday, October 23, 2007. Garrett Marvich seconded the motion. Motion passed 10-0-0. 2) The TV for Kerr was purchased out of the student development budget, not GCSU. 3) Newsletters are due November 30. II) Dorm Updates: a. Pearce—John Bennett: The building had good participation in Our Town and Big Bad Big Wheel Rally. Also, recycling is going really well. b. Memorial—Garrett Marvich: The building helped host Big Bad Big Wheel Rally, and had a great turnout with 17 teams. Everyone is now out of the basement and there are some men moving to different rooms for the spring semester. c. Clarke—Meg Diemer: Waiting to hear back about mural prize party. There is an all hall meeting Tuesday at 10. The MCA is planning a movie night. d. McKee—Ashley Luciano: A progressive multicultural dinner will be held next Wednesday, November 13. There will be a “Sex, Love and Relationships” discussion in the lounge this week. The mural prize ice cream party will likely be held reading day. e. Young North—Josh Gmys: The building took 1st place in the Big Bad Big Wheel Rally. Alex Shaver is doing a “getting big” workout program. There is a good turn out for men’s breakfast Thursday mornings. The building intends to have their mural prize coffee party on reading day with Young East. f. Young East—Bonnie Rapp: The mural prize coffee party will likely be held on reading day with Young North. Trick or treating through the dorms went well. There is a Young East tradition of brick painting in the lounge that is happening this week. The building is planning a progressive dinner. There are a lot of RA programs coming up (soup kitchen visit, masseuse). g. Arms Men—Conlan Walsh: Absent h. Arms Women—Lindsay Moore: Made promotional flyers for ping pong tournament. The trick or treating in the dorms was successful with a hall decorating contest (basement floor won). i. Houses—Nate Davies: Harvest of the Houses is coming up on November 17th. Kerr and Schoolhouse are planning a progressive dinner for the week before finals. Also, a Patterson vs. Kerr football game was held last weekend. j. Commuters—Katherine Bull: There has been a lot of discussion about the upcoming ping pong tournament, and many commuters are anticipated to participate. III) Proposals: None IV) New Business: 1) RC are working on getting flyers out by the 14th and are encouraged to get as many people as possible signing up. 2) Craig Bender has expressed a concern in Senate about the vacuums in the dorms. Tom Pyle asked if the RC’s would look into the vacuums to see which floors have vacuums that work and their conditions so that something definite can be taken to Residence Life. Information must be turned in to Tom by Wednesday, November 14th. V) Senate Update: Josh Lee gave the update. The senior class had a bonfire last week which went well. The Food Committee is working on the “Iron Chef Competition” to be held November 14th. The Washington DC Proposal raised questions about funding retroactively and trips in general, but the motion failed. The executives brought the “New Desk Proposal” which passed. The houses are planning an event, “Harvest of the Houses” and asked for $800, it was passed to budget committee and Senate will be voting on that proposal this week. VI) Student Activities Update: Brandon Baughman gave the update. Friday, November 9th “We Are Marshall” will be shown in JWC at 8:00. Traditional movie theatre foods will be served. The “Mystery Bus Trip” has been moved to the last weekend of January for a combination of reasons. “Ryanhood”, an acoustic guitar duet group, will be in concert on November 30th. A Christmas themed Half.Past.Nine will be held in December. John Bennett motioned to end the meeting. Katherine Bull seconded the motion. Meeting ended at 9:59 p.m. |
