January 22, 2008Tom Pyle called the meeting to order at 9:30 p.m. Conlan Walsh was absent. Josh Gmys opened in prayer. 1) John Bennett moved to pass the minutes of Tuesday, November 27, 2007. Katherine Bull seconded the motion. Motion passed 10-0-0. 2) Dorm Updates: a. Pearce — John Bennett: There are now scheduled weekly building team meetings. Discussing the possibility of a Pearce vs. Memorial broomball game. Also, researching the cost and potential of new patio furniture for outside the dorm. b. Memorial — Garrett Marvich: There were about 20 new students who moved into the dorm. There is an upcoming building team meeting. There is continued discussion for lounge improvements. c. Clarke — Meg Diemer: There was a recent building team meeting in which the group shared expectations. The current potential projects in the dorm are: painting the lounge right before spring break, making a brick path to the dumpster, and looking into purchasing a picnic table for outside the dorm. d. McKee — Ashley Luciano: The dorm is planning a black-and-white ball with Memorial for Saturday, January 26. There were a significant amount of new students who moved into the dorm. e. Young North — Josh Gmys: Inquired about the winnings from Homecoming week because Young never had their party; Tom Pyle will be contacting Alumni office. Also, he is working on a survey asking residents to prioritize the needed dorm improvements. f. Young East — Bonnie Rapp: Inquiring about the coffee event as well. She is in discussion with Sarah Dompier, the RD, about an improvement or event that the results would carry over until next year. g. Arms Men — Conlan Walsh: Absent h. Arms Women — Lindsay Moore: There are 5 new women that moved into the building. On February 8 there is a broomball tournament for all of Arms. i. Houses — Nate Davies: There is a building team meeting next Wednesday. Discussing having a campus-wide broomball event because there is a lot of interest across campus. j. Commuters — Katherine Bull: Her goal for the semester is to get commuters involved in bible studies and worship services. 3) Proposals: a. Grill for the Houses — Nate Davies: Wants a grill for all of the houses to share for cook-outs and “family” dinners. Nate Davies moved to allocate $340 for a new grill and propane tank for the houses. Garrett Marevich seconded the motion. Motion passed 14-0-0. Brandon Baughman asked how the propane tank would be funded when the initial one runs out; Nate said that it would come out of the houses budget. Josh Lee asked how many are in attendance for the cookouts; Nate replied that the majority of the men from Kerr attend. b. TV for Pearce — John Bennett: Wants a TV for the main lounge because the current TV is small and broken. There seems to be a high demand for watching TV, especially with sporting events. Looking to get a higher definition or plasma TV. John Bennett moved to allocate $500 for a new TV for Pearce Hall. Megan Diemer seconded the motion. Vanessa Shmuck asked if Paul Perrine had been contacted; John said that Taylor Sprague has contacted Paul in the past. Motion passed 10-0-2. 4) Senate Update: Josh Lee gave the update. Recent proposals passed: David Crowder Band ticket discount--$3 off; Women’s Retreat Proposal—passed to budget committee, Mexico Missions Trip Proposal—passed to budget committee. Starting to talk about Our Town and an opportunity to partner with “Blitz Building” project in Beaver Falls. Elections are coming up for opening GCSU positions. Discussions are occurring regarding the Commons Room space. 5) Student Activities Update: Brandon Baughman gave the update. The semester calendar is up around campus, and Student Activities is heavy with events at the beginning of the semester. The “Mystery Bus Trip” is this Friday, January 25. Movies are due for Film Fest February 8. February 2 is the Cavaliers game against the Lakers; tickets go on sale January 28, and there are only 45 tickets available. The Lion King tickets will be going on sale February 6; show is February 13. John Bennett motioned to end the meeting. Megan Diemer seconded the motion. Meeting ended at 10:10 p.m. |
