Honors Program and Scholarship Competition

8 a.m. - 3 p.m.

High-achieving students (based on their GPA and SAT/ACT scores), who are accepted by January 6, 2014, are invited to the First-Year Honors Program and Scholarship Competition on Saturday, February 1, 2014. Students will be interviewed by a small, informal panel of faculty, staff and students, and will write an essay to be scored by a faculty panel. The 40 available positions in the program, as well as five $5,000 Honors Scholarships, will be decided from the results of the competition. Parents are also encouraged to attend and will be learning about various aspects of Geneva College while their student is competing.

First-Year Honors Programs Scholarships

Each student selected will receive:

  • A $12,000- or $15,000-a-year scholarship for four years (determined upon acceptance)
  • A $2,000 Honors Program Honorarium that may be used for off-campus study, academic research or conference attendance, after the first year is completed with a minimum GPA of 3.4

Additionally, five students will each receive a $5,000 Honors Scholarship, to be applied toward financial aid during the first year.

Only students attending the Honors Program & Scholarship Competition will be considered for the First-Year Honors Program Scholarship.

Qualifications for Invitation

  • Geneva invites all recipients of the Pro Christo academic scholarship and those with a 3.6 cumulative GPA and 1250 composite SAT or 28 composite ACT or higher (does not include writing portions)
  • Invitations will be sent to qualified students beginning December 6, 2013

Competition Guidelines

  • Participating students must be accepted to Geneva College no later than January 6, 2014
  • Student must personally attend the scholarship competition
  • Students must review and agree to participate as described in the Participation Policy
  • Scholarship recipients will be notified no later than March 1, 2014

Please note our Participation Policy that is in place for all students who choose to participate in the Geneva College Honors Program and Scholarship Competition: All students who are eligible and wish to be considered for the Honors Program and scholarship associated with the competition are required to attend this event in person and participate in all scheduled activities. Students will be escorted to the competition location and the writing process will begin promptly at 9 a.m. Under no circumstances will there be late admittance. Any student who is late for the competition or does not participate in all scheduled activities will not be considered for the Honors Program or scholarships associated with the competition. This event will not be rescheduled due to weather conditions. Please plan your travel accordingly.
