October 22, 2008Tom Pyle called the meeting to order at 6:33 p.m. and asked if there were any prayer requests. I) Announcements Ashley Grueso moved to pass the minutes from October 15, 2008. Ashley Luciano seconded the motion. Motion passed 12-0-0. II) Class Updates a) Freshman – Micah Yarger gave the update. They have selected furniture for the courtyard. The benches and tables are black, and they are all uniform. b) Sophomores – Ted Northrop gave the update. The class has a proposal to present. They have been working on open hours with Mike Loomis and Paul Perrine. They also put together a variety of survey formats and they have been emailed to Mike Loomis. The survey is shorter and more direct than last year’s survey. They want to use the RC’s to help with the distribution, but Paul Perrine would like to see the survey done online. c) Juniors – Doug Miller gave the update. They discussed the competition between buildings to fund raise for a charity and would like to contact the RD’s and RA’s and ask them to help. The money could possibly go to World Vision. Two designs have been made for class t-shirts. The class has e-mailed Clayton to get the cost on pies for their class event. They would like to see new benches placed outside of each of the residential buildings. d) Seniors – Kelly DeFilippo gave the update. “Our Town” was discussed primarily in the meeting. For a Senior project they want to contribute something significant to leave behind. Tom Pyle said Mike Loomis has some suggestions for the courtyard. They also discussed the need for a Geneva sign on the turnpike III) Residential Council Update – Katherine Bull gave the update. “Open Door October” is coming to a close and prizes are being handed out to the winners. There were 4 proposals: Operation Christmas Child, Donuts for Commuters in the Underground, Laundry Bins for Young North and an All Hall Wing Social for Memorial. IV) Student Activities Update – Kaylee Wherry gave the update. Half.Past.Nine had a good turnout. “The Game” is this Friday and they are working hard to get ready for it. All those helping out with The Game” are to meet at 6 p.m. on Friday. Midnight Madness is coming together and Student Activities is starting the process for the planning of Justice Week. V) Committee Updates “Security Committee” – The Security Committee discussed the possibility of an escort service for those who live in Schoolhouse or far from the heart of campus. Liability issues will need to be considered. “Food Committee” – The Food Committee is looking for new input and would like to see specific suggestions for changes to be made. They discussed the hours of the Brig and the possibility of providing hot food later on nights that seem busier as well as the possibility of changing the Riverview Café hours. The idea of providing nutritional information for diabetics was suggested. “Chapel Committee” – Dean Smith was excited to give his message this morning in chapel. Mr. Bucci is glad to be involved in the chapel planning. The committee would like input on the best way and the best place to pray with students after the service each week. Katherine Bull suggested a prayer room. They are trying to address the issue of students not paying attention during the service and various ways to eliminate distractions. VI) New Business “Splash Lagoon Proposal” – The Sophomores are planning on bringing 80 sophomores to Splash Lagoon in Erie, PA on December 6, 2008. They have made reservations already. The schedule is as follows: Leave at 11 a.m., arrive at 1:00 p.m., spend 4 hours at the water park followed by dinner in Erie (at personal expense) until 7:00 p.m. They will return at 9:30 p.m. The Sophomores still have $1,610 from a class event that never took place. The class will be selling t-shirts at $3.00 a piece and all proceeds will be returned to the GCSU. Ted Northrop moved to re-allocate their previous allotted money towards Splash Lagoon, as well an additional $1181, and moved to send it to Budget Committee. All unused funds, plus proceeds from the t-shirt sales will be returned to the GCSU. Kelly DeFilippo seconded the motion. Motion passed 12-0-0. “Our Town” – Tom Pyle asked if anyone is planning on doing road cleanup and if so to let him know. Tom also asked if there were any finalized sites yet. Ashley Grueso has contacted Pine Valley, Katie Roads, The Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity, and informed Senate that they need about 10 to 15 people for trash cleanup. Micah Yarger talked to Providence Homecare Center. Kelly DeFilippo met with the PR Committee and they will be doing sign-ups next week in Alex’s. They will be sending out an all campus email and promotional materials in each person’s mailbox. Kelly DeFilippo motioned to end the meeting. Ashley Grueso seconded the motion.
