Meet the Coach
For the past five seasons, Geneva 's softball team has been guided by head coach Van Zanic. During his tenure, Zanic has helped the Golden Tornadoes maintain their momentum and has helped Geneva stay at or near the top of the AMC North standings, including five consecutive trips to the AMC play-offs and two straight appearances at the NAIA regional tournament. In five years, Zanic has an overall coaching mark of 146-101 (.591), including a 33-22 mark in the 2007 season. Zanic's 146 victories places him at the top of Geneva 's list for most coaching wins in a career. Zanic surpassed the 100-victory plateau mid-way through the 2006 campaign. Zanic, who is beginning his tenth season as Geneva 's sports information director, began his coaching career as an assistant for two seasons under Chelle Fuss and one year under head coach Peggy Ross. No stranger to College Hill, Zanic attended Geneva from 1988-92 and was a standout baseball player during those four years. A four-year letter winner, Zanic helped guide the Golden Tornadoes to four winning seasons and four post-season appearances for Geneva 's baseball team during his career. Prior to coming back to Geneva in 1998, Zanic was an assistant softball coach at Woodland Hills High School for three years in the mid-90's, while his father, George Zanic, served as the head coach during the same time frame. Zanic graduated from Geneva College with a bachelor's degree in broadcast communications and took over as the school's full-time sports information director in 1998. Zanic and his wife, Rebecca, reside on College Hill in Beaver Falls with their two children, Zachary and Alexia. Contact Coach Zanic by email at vgzanic@geneva.edu. |
