Why pick up a minor in Spanish? Well, these days Hispanics are the largest minority population in the United States, and there are also 20 countries in the world that have Spanish as their primary language. Who can benefit from picking up a minor in Spanish?
- Business majors: knowledge of Spanish opens up doors to both national and international commerce in many parts of the U.S.
- Education majors: in many parts of the U.S., a minor in Spanish will give you the ability not only to better teach your Hispanic students, but also to interact with their parents.
- Missions and Christian Ministries majors: perhaps your call is to serve in Latin America or in the US where there is a heavy population of Hispanics--it is difficult to minister there without knowing the language!
- Communications, Human services, and Psychology majors: in many jobs relating to these fields knowledge of Spanish is a must.
The bottom line is this: While learning Spanish has enjoyment in itself since God Himself has created language, there are some real benefits to picking up a minor in Spanish to complement your major.
